The History & Drive Behind Carroll County Cooperative
Carroll County Co-Op
Supporting Local Farmers Since 1946
Farmer-owned and operated, Carroll County Cooperative has been a cornerstone of the agricultural community in Southwest Virginia since its founding in 1946 in Hillsville, VA. Our mission has always been to enhance the livelihoods of local farmers by providing essential agricultural resources, expertise, and support.

In 1975, we partnered with Southern States to strengthen our collective bargaining power, enabling us to provide even greater value to our members. Over the years, our membership has expanded to more than 6,700 farmers, and we now proudly serve our community from four locations in Hillsville, Galax, Wytheville, and Tazewell, Virginia.

In 2025, we made a strategic decision to reaffirm our commitment to local farmers by returning to our roots as an independent, farmer-owned cooperative, ending our management agreement with Southern States. This move ensures economic stability and allows us to better focus on the specific needs of our members.
